Crime Stoppers and Transparency International New Zealand are holding an event to inform and educate all senior citizens about cyber scams in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The event includes cyber experts alongside people who have been affected by cyber-crime. Speakers include Police Assistant Commissioner Sue Schwalger; CERT NZ senior threat analyst Sam Leggett; NetSafe CEO Brent Carey; Dr Jordan Alexander and ZX Security founder– Simon Howard.
The event will be staged in Wellington for an invited audience. The presentation will be live streamed so everybody, regardless of their location, can build their cyber scam awareness.
Crime Stoppers CEO Hadyn Smith says that this event is specifically designed to support those who have come late to social media platforms and the internet.
“Cyber scams can be convincing and hard to detect even for those who are savvy internet users. We feel that senior New Zealanders and those that have come to the internet, texts or social media late in life, need a few tools at their disposal to help navigate these spaces while keeping themselves secure.”
“It is also a chance to let everyone know that the internet is not a terrifying place, and you can keep yourself and your loved ones safe with simple steps. That journey usually starts with awareness and the level of security you feel comfortable putting in place. This presentation is a must for those that are connected to the internet but, at times, don’t feel safe in that space.” said Mr Smith.
Those wanting to attend virtually should book through Eventbrite. The streaming link will be sent to everyone registered on the day. The event is free of any charge.
