Crime Stoppers wants to give Kiwis the confidence to anonymously report gang crime in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Starting this week, a national campaign aimed at vulnerable communities and whānau. The focus is on safely sharing what you know, not who you are.
Crime Stoppers CEO Hadyn Smith says the combination of guns, crime and gangs isn’t a good outcome for anyone, and sharing what you know is vital.
“Those influenced and affected by gang crime are usually too scared to get involved. Crime Stoppers is a safe, anonymous and independent reporting alternative that allows all New Zealanders to speak up in a safe and timely fashion.”
“Recent community experience shows that there’s no safety catch on gang members involved with guns, methamphetamine, or violence in public places. But anonymously sharing what you know is often the best way of getting them, and your whānau, the help they need.”
The campaign isn’t just about reporting knowledge of gang crime – it’s about building an informed focus on gang activity. A full 6-month campaign schedule is in place to gain an extensive understanding of criminal activity.
Crime Stoppers Gang Crime will launch across a range of platforms including:
- Street posters (translated into three languages)
- Animated video
- As well as being supported by radio, social media channels, OOH and digital activities
